Who are we?

Waterloo Chess club provides a welcoming place for all to meet and play chess. Although we're currently based in Crosby village, our members hail from across the North West. We've welcomed new members with Chess.com ratings below 1000, and our ranks have previously boasted an International Master, so whatever your previous experience you'll find someone to give you a game here. We play competitively under classical time conditions in competitions run by the Merseyside Chess Association, but people looking for a casual rapid game can usually find one.

Where and when?

As of 08/06/26, we're moving to a new venue in Round Eight at 7:15pm on Monday evenings. Members and guests are encouraged to use the bar in return for their hospitality. Visitors joining us for the first time are advised to get in touch using the link below before coming - just in case we're playing another team in a different venue that evening!

Can I bring my child?

Children are welcome to attend, but we do ask that a parent or guardian accompanies them. As the club is based in licensed premises and runs until late in the evening, the children's chess club in Crosby library after school might be a more suitable alternative for many. An adult's chess club is also in operation on Monday afternoons.
